How to Install Very Secure FTP (vsftpd)

FTP is a protocol which is used for file transfer between different servers. Initially its not secure enough so we will install Very Secure FTP to make it sure that no one can invade the FTP server. Let’s start with the first step

#yum install vsftpd

This command will install all the dependencies of vsftpd

Now we have to configure the VSFTPD by making changes in its configuration file to make it secure enough

#vi /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf

We have to make the following changes in our file to make it work at its best

There is a parameter of Anonymous_enable which needs to changed and we will change it from Yes to No

anonymous_enable=NO

If you want your FTP users to remain only in the folders to which they are given access then the following parameter should be changed to Yes

chroot_local_user=YES

Required security changes are done now and you can access your FTP securely but first we have to restart the FTP server to implement the changes

#/etc/init.d/vsftpd restart

VSFTPD is ready to use now enjoy the secure FTP!
